CONSTRUCTION 

   

 

These Series Reactors are constructed briefly as -

Oil filled, Natural cooled reactors both indoors/out doors and are subdivided into
  A Coreless variety
  a Magnetic shielding
  b Non magnetic shielding
  B Gapped cored variety with a magnetic yoke
Dry type and indoor type Air Cooled reactors with
  i. A gapped core
  ii. Shielding of any type
  iii. Unshielded.
 
 

Since these are designed to give maximum reactance per unit weight of metal, the skin effect is pronounced, leading to higher A.C. losses. These are minimised by use of aluminium where the skin depth is less than that of copper. Hence aluminium is a favored material for reactors. The coils are rigidly reinforced to withstand heavy short circuit conditions.

  ACCESSORIES & MOUNTINGS
On Oil filled Reactors following accessories and mountings are provided:
  Oil Conservator; Silica Gel Breather; Oil level Indicator; Explosion Vent; Lifting arrangement for coil and shields; Rating plate; Diagram Plate: Thermometer Pocket; Dial Type Thermometer when specified. Oil filling hole and cap; Drain cock and plug; filter cock and plug; Earthing lugs-2; Four Rollers under the base frame; Radiators where necessary; Incoming and outgoing Terminals; Cable End Box with Gland when specified.
The standard terminal arrangements are as below:
  A) Three incoming and three outgoing terminals of the open outdoor type
  B) Cable End Box with gland for incoming terminals and open, three nos., outgoing terminals or vice verse.
  C) Only three incoming open terminals and the neutral outgoing single terminal.
 
The Reactor is supplied with the first charge of oil.
 
On Dry type Reactors: following accessories are provided:
 
Lifting arrangements for coil assembly & the shields. Rating Plate; Diagram Plate; Dial type thermometer- When specified; Earthing lugs; Base frame (M.S.) 4 Rollers under the frame.
