TESTING PLAN |
Testing plan is divided into three types of tests. |
Routine tests |
To be carried out by the manufacturer on all the units, for which a routine test certificate will be supplied. |
Acceptance tests |
To be carried out on capacitors, the number of which is to be decided between the customer and the manufacturer mutually. |
Type tests |
Normally a certificate for the type test will be provided. However we can offer type tests on single unit at extra costs and with previous arrangement. |
Routine Tests |
A |
Visual examination |
B |
Sealing test at 75 Degree C + 5 Degree C for 3 Hours. |
C |
Test for capacitance. Capacitance will be measured directly across a Schering bridge. |
D |
Voltage test between terminals.
Note : On subsequent repeated testing, test voltage applied will be equal to 80% of the above value. |
E |
Voltage test between terminals and container. A dc voltage equal to 1.1 times the sum of rated
voltage Note: This test is not applicable when there is only one live terminal or when the container is of plastic/insulating material |
F |
Charge/discharge cycle test. The capacitor will be charged and discharged automatically or manually at specified conditions for a total of 100 cycles. There will be no change in capacitance of more than 2% and dissipation factor will not be greater than 0.001. |
G |
Measurement of tangent of dielectric loss angle ( Tan delta) This will be measured across the Schering bridge at a suitable voltage. |
Acceptance tests |
All the routine tests are offered as acceptance tests. |
Type tests |
Following type test are identical to similar tests under routine test |
A |
Test for capacitance. |
B |
Voltage test between terminals and container |
C |
Voltage test between terminals |
D |
Measurement of tan delta. |
E |
Measurement of ESL: Two identical capacitors will be connected in series with a spark gap. The test voltage will be greater than 2kV DC. Care will be taken so as not to exceed the peak discharge current rating. The value of ESL will be determined by the given formula. |
F |
Measurement of ESR ESR measurement will be carried out on two identical capacitors. The value of ESR will be determined by the given formula. |
G |
Capacitor discharge test : The capacitor shall be charged by means of dc to its rated voltage and discharged without reactor through a gap situated as close as possible to the capacitor. It will be subjected to five such discharges within 10 minutes. Five minutes after this test, Voltage test as (b) above will be taken. The change in capacitance before discharge test and after voltage test will not exceed 2% at 27 Degree C + 2 Degree C. |
H |
DC Life test : The capacitor will be brought to the specified ambient temperature inside a cabinet. It will be charged to it's rated voltage and held at this voltage continuously through a trickle charge within + 5% variation. The test is continued till there is a breakdown. The time to breakdown will be taken as the total dc life. |
I |
Life expectancy/endurance test The capacitor will be charged to peak charged voltage and discharged through an automatic switching device maintaining specified peak discharge current, voltage reversal, etc. The charging/discharging cycle will be maintained at the specified repetition rate. The sample will pass the test if there is no appreciable change in the value of capacitance and dissipation factor after conducting test for specified number of charge-discharge cycles. Alternatively accelerated life test may be conducted as agreed. |
